Learn to Finish Your Own Tracks

In studio Mixing & Production Tuition in Leeds, Yorkshire

One-to-one mixing and production tuition in an acoustically treated studio in Leeds, Yorkshire. Work through a problem, or get a whole mix finished and learn the skills to do it yourself next time.

Another Plugin Isn't the Answer

YouTube tutorials can't hear your track. Forums give you conflicting advice. And the more you learn, the more confusing it gets.

Most home producers get a song 80% there and then hit a wall. The last 20% is what separates a demo from something releasable and it's the hardest part to figure out alone!

That's what these sessions are for.

Built for Home Producers and Independent Artists

You record your own music. You know your way around your DAW. But something is stopping the mix from sounding finished and you can't quite work out what!

I have over 20 years of mixing experience and have been teaching for more than five years. I know exactly where home producers get stuck, and more importantly, how to get you unstuck, without taking the music out of your hands.

Artists who've worked this way have gone on to land management deals, BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music plays, award nominations and support slots.

iPAD DEMO TO ARTIST OF THE WEEK

Lucifer’s Beard (Chris) reached out to me as he was finishing his first ever mix. He hadn’t made music in over a decade and these were some of his first recordings. That said, he’d done an incredible job and was committed to finishing his mix himself. After a Mix Tuition Session mix was fixed up and he achieved BBC Introducing Artist Of The Week with a home demo.

Two Ways to Work Together

Two Hour Session

These short sessions are good for focusing on a core technique or a specific problem in a mix.

Whether it's the basics of compression and EQ or more advanced techniques, I'll teach you transferable concepts and specific workflows so you can mix at home more confidently.

FULL MIX DAY

Bring a track that needs finishing. We'll work through the whole mix together from top to bottom. You leave with a completely different understanding of how to get there.

Good for tracks that are nearly done, artists who want to deeply understand the mixing process and anyone ready to invest a full day in their music.

DIY Artist On 6 Music

Hang Linton self produces his music and just needed a hand getting a couple of tracks across the line. We worked on adding that professional gloss without losing his soul from the music. It has been released by Zen FC a label from the lads in Yard Act and featured on 6 Music amongst other stations and playlists. Recently back from touring with Benefits he is creating a buzz on the alt music scene.

FAQs

Do I need any experience?

1

No. Whether you're just starting out or have been making music for years the sessions are tailored to where you are. I'll work with your current setup and your current skills.

What do I need to bring?

2

Just your laptop and a bounce of your current mix. A reference track that sounds the way you want yours to can be handy. If you would like to work from my system we can chat that through, it’s no bother!

What DAW do you use?

3

The sessions focus on listening and decision-making rather than any specific software so it doesn't matter what you work in. Bring your own laptop and we'll work in your session. I use Logic, I can teach you how to use your plugins, stock plugins or mine. I have experience with all major DAWS.

Is this only available in Leeds?

4

Yes. Sessions run in-studio at Chapel Works, Stocks St, Leeds LS7 2AU.

Can I book more than one session?

5

Yes. A two hour session is designed to be useful as a standalone but most people come back. If you want to book a series get in touch directly and we can work something out.

What's your cancellation policy?

6

You can reschedule with 48 hours' notice. Cancellations inside 48 hours may not be refundable as the slot will have been held.

What if my track isn’t ready yet?

7

That’s exactly what this is for. If the real issue is arrangement, performance, or production (not mixing), I’ll tell you and you’ll still leave with a clear plan.

What happens if I need more help after?

8

If you want to keep going, we can book another session or move into deeper support. But the session is designed to be valuable as a standalone step.
